ABOUT RACHEL
Dr. Rachel Levine is a trailblazing national transgender leader, one of our nation’s top public health and climate leaders, and a specialist in adolescent health and pediatric medicine. After President Biden appointed her to serve as U.S. Assistant Secretary for Health, she became the first transgender person to receive confirmation by the U.S. Senate and was appointed a four-star admiral leading the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps. As Pennsylvania’s Physician General and Secretary of Health, Dr. Levine led Pennsylvania through the COVID-19 pandemic and the opioid epidemic. She spent decades in academic medicine before transitioning to public service and has been involved in HIV medicine since the early days of the epidemic. Dr. Levine’s talks provide optimism and hope for the future.

Since Dobbs the ability to access reproductive health services has reverted to a patchwork system where laws differ depending on which state you are in. This presentation will address reproductive rights from a public health lens and will look at access to abortion, contraception, family planning, and sexual health services. The presentation will link reproductive rights to the broader conversation about bodily autonomy for women, transgender, and intersex people across the United States.

Before entering public service, Dr. Levine spent the majority of her career in academic pediatric medicine. In this presentation, she will address current topics in adolescent health and will also address the mental health needs of adolescent populations.

Climate change represents the greatest threat to human health around the globe. Dr. Levine, who was the lead HHS representative to COP21 and COP23 and who oversaw the HHS Office of Climate Change and Health Equity, will present about the link between climate change and the health and wellbeing of people around the world.
