SPEAKING TOPICS
-
Using anecdotes of her own experiences from her various jobs, from customer service to professor, Vivek Shraya will discuss how to recognize covert racist, sexist and ageist microaggressions and subtle bullying from colleagues or management. She will offer suggestions based on how she has addressed these verbal and non verbal (i.e. body language) interactions.
Vivek will also share how professional jealousy can play an unspoken role in toxic office culture and how it can be subverted as a unique teaching tool.
-
Strong leadership skills matter most when we’re down on our luck and struggling to find inspiration.
Having observed firsthand the challenges posed by cancel culture, burnout, and inequality within communities, Vivek Shraya has continuously refined her approach to leadership. In this talk, Vivek makes a (very convincing) case for embracing risk-taking and out-of-the-box thinking as essential tools for fostering group cohesion and confidence and sparking creativity in times of uncertainty and change. She shows how leading with empathy, and cultivating kindness as a business strategy, can create opportunities for growth and makes teams happier and more productive.
In this presentation, Vivek will share her personal journey—from overcoming bullying as a teenager to becoming a respected leader in her communities—along with the key lessons and principles she has learned throughout her career.

Drawing from her book, “How to Fail as a Popstar;” Vivek Shraya explores the positive side of fear and failure. She encourages teams to stay open to possibility when met with disappointment.
Aimed at all levels of staff and management, this talk is meant to help audiences reframe their relationship to, and with, the thought of getting it wrong — whatever “it” is— and doing it anyway.
Key insights:
Embrace failure as a natural part of the creative process: failure is inevitable for anyone pursuing a creative endeavor, and encourages individuals and organizations to view failure as an opportunity for growth and learning. Keep showing up!
Adopt a zen approach to fear and failure: take those feelings of disappointment and honour them, instead of trying to look on the bright side, or use failure as a stepping stone to other things. And learn to life with fear: rather than worrying about conquering fear, recognize that living requires learning to co-exist with it.
Empower employees to take risks: create a culture that empowers employees to take risks, experiment, and innovate. By recognizing and rewarding effort and experimentation, rather than just success, leaders can foster a more innovative and creative workplace.
